Savoie's unique culture, traditions and way of life can be directly traced to the area's rich and turbulent past. As every town and every city bears reminders of the history and culture of Savoie, there are many interesting historical and cultural sites to visit.
Savoie "Départemental" Council, which is responsible for maintaining and promoting the area's heritage, has created a number of "discovery trails" that guide the visitor through the history of Savoie from Mediaeval times to the modern day. There is no better way to explore the area's historic monuments, castles and Baroque churches and chapels.
