A little history...

Although Savoie has been a French department since 1860, it wasn't until 1880, when the railway lines to Italy, Annecy and Lyon were completed, that the economy of the region started to show real growth. Even at this early date, the strategic importance of the area was clear as the railways had converted Savoie from a mere point of passage to a hub of economic exchange.

Today Savoie occupies a strategic position close to Italy, Switzerland and Germany, a factor of prime importance within the framework of an ever-expanding Europe. The growing population and economy of the area are constantly reinforcing this key advantage in terms of regional, inter-regional and international development.

The area's prosperity is based on the success of service industries linked to tourism, the vigor of small businesses, the presence of large industrial groups, and a philosophy of openness towards the world.
